SELECTION OF MOTORS :
Choice of cage and wound motors may be based on the following criteria.
Cage Motors may be used where
-
The driven equipment is to be accelerated rapidly with a fixed sequence of operation and uniform load conditions. Example : A workshop crane equipment loading a conveyor belt.
-
Almost identical load conditions having both directions of rotation. Example : long traverse or cross traverse to grantry crane.
-
Speed control not necessary.
-
Robust and maintenance free requirement considering site conditions.
-
Reduced cost considerations.
-
Normally used upto 250M frame
size.
Cage motors may not be used where
-
Precise speed control is necessary. Example : slow and fast handling of load during hoisting and lowering. Alignment of crane over a furnace opening etc.
-
Non-uniform loading conditions and sequence of operation.
-
Large number of starting and reversals are required during operation.
-
Starting
torques generally more than 2.5 times the rated torque are
required.
